Bridgeway Family Church Helderberg, Cape Town

Bridgeway Family Church Helderberg, Cape Town (formerly known as Helderberg Community Church) started when Riaan and Anli Smit, felt called to leave their home and business in Gaborone, Botswana in 2017, to serve the Lord in Somerset West. The church was birthed and continues to grow as a multicultural, community that seeks to live out the Gospel in its fullness. The relationship between our leaders and other CTMI partner churches is the fruit of the message preached, “….. I resolved to know nothing ……… except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

Meet the team

Brian Watts

Brian and Martine Watts have lived and worked across Southern Africa; Brian is South African and Martine is from Zimbabwe. After studying and a career with Deloitte Consulting, Brian was presented with an opportunity to lead a church while based in Botswana. His relationship with CTMI led him to work together with others in the network to build the Gaborone and Francistown church. After 19 years of ministry in Botswana, Brian and Martine retired from Deloitte in 2022 to join the newly established Somerset West church where they now serve the Lord.

Riaan Smit

Riaan and Anli Smit lived in Botswana for many years with their 3 daughters. Riaan was running a successful business when they obeyed the call of the Lord to give themselves fully into His service. The Lord led them to Cape Town where the church in Somerset West was established and began to grow. During this time Riaan was ordained as Pastor and serves the Lord full time with the support of Anli. They are in relationship with CTMI and their passion is to see the message of the Cross being restored to the body of Christ.
