Bridgeway Family Church Durban

The Durban church began with just three families. Led by the Lord to relocate from Zimbabwe, Basil O’Connell-Jones held the first meeting in the home of Barry and Denise Slement in 2003. It was a small beginning that slowly grew as they moved to a scout hall and then into Pinetown Boys' High School when more and more people joined. It was there, in 2007, that many lives were radically touched by the Gospel, resulting in young elders being planted out across the world. Despite a season of having to move to different venues, the church has continued to grow in strength as it boldly preaches Jesus Christ. From a few families, a much larger, closely-knit spiritual family was born that thrives today in their Christian walk with the Lord.

Basil O'Connell-Jones

Basil O'Connell-Jones gave his life to Jesus in 1978. Two years later, he attended Bible school in SA before returning to Zimbabwe with his wife, Kathy, where he was later made an elder. After serving there for many years as a youth pastor and evangelist, he moved with his family to Durban as part of a church plant. Today, his children and their families are also actively involved in spreading the Gospel.

Barry Slement

Barry Slement has been with the Durban church since it's inception in his home in 2003. Born again in the 80s, he was part of the Bulawayo Christian Centre for many years before moving to SA to pursue further business opportunities. In 2016, he became an elder in Durban where he serves the church along with his wife, Denise. Together, they have 3 children and 5 grandchildren, all following the Lord.
